Amy was born to a single mother in the Downtown area of The City. Amy and her mother lived in a dilapidated caravan where her mother would often entertain paying male guests. As a child, Amy was tasked with serving food and drinks to these men and experienced sexual abuse from many of them.

Amy did not receive any formal education as a child and never learnt to read or write.

Lars Henderson, a friend of Amy's mother, was also in Amy's life from an early age. Unlike most adults in Amy's life, Lars took time to talk to and listen to Amy. At age 14, Lars convinced Amy to come and work for her at her establishment at the old Blackburn Hotel, which Amy agreed to.

Amy continued to work for Lars as a sex worker until the fall of Malcom Moore in 1999, when the hotel was seized.
