Ethan was born in North Central to Robert Stower and Nancy Stower and was the youngest of five brothers. His home life was very dysfunctional and he was mostly ignored and neglected by his parents and tormented by his older brothers.
As a child, Ethan is timid and quiet. He is hyperaware of his surroundings and perceived danger around him. He prefers to spend time indoors and, when comfortable, loves engaging with hands on tasks.
Ethan attended the local primary school and loved school very much. His teacher, having seen great potential in him, put him forward for a Southbridge School scholarship in maths and science.

During his early years at school, Ethan made friends with Adam Harris and the two of them spent most of their time together. However, at around age 9 Ethan stopped speaking to Adam, due to pressure to fit in with his older brothers. In an attempt to be accepted by his brothers and avoid being bullied by them, Ethan tried his best to emulate them. He started smoking, absconding from school and getting involved in shoplifting with older boys.
At age 11, upon learning that he had been awarded the coveted scholarship to Southbridge School, Ethan was very conflicted but inevitably followed his desire to attend secondary education.
Ethan started attending Southbridge School on a full scholarship in 1991 at the age of 11. For most of his time at Southbridge, Ethan did not have any friends and was bullied by his peers. However, he excelled in his classes (other than English) and enjoyed school most of the time.
Ethan's parents were not happy or supportive of his attending secondary education and wanted him to get a job to make money for the family instead. In 1994, at the age of 14, Ethan left his family home to get away from them. Ethan slept rough for a little while before realising he could sleep in the Southbridge School boiler room as long as nobody noticed. Eventually, he was caught by his form tutor, Clive Reichemick. From there, Ethan moved from spare bed, to spare room, to bedsit using money he earned from working odd jobs and doing favours.

During his last two years at Southbridge, Ethan made friends with the remaining members of his class and became especially close with Russell Charbonneau. Russell often invited Ethan to his home for evenings and even short periods of time. As Ethan spent some time at the Charbonneau estate, he was often in the company of Marcus Charbonneau.

1997, Ethan was recruited by Malcom Moore to program their computer systems. Despite feeling uncomfortable in the environment, Ethan takes on the job.

As a teenager, Ethan is very social awkward, but enjoys spending time with close friends. He is cynical and pessimistic but very hard working. He has a very deep belief that he is less important than everyone else in his life, especially those at Southbridge School.

At University, Ethan drifted apart from Russell as Russell began spending time with only other people of his social standing. Still feeling as though he was less than the rest of his fellow students, Ethan started spending time with one of the university cleaners, Sabrina. They became friends and eventually started a relationship.

During his time at university, Ethan is more outspoken and confident than before but still carries the belief that he is worth less than his peers. He shares his cynicism and dark humour with others and is generally liked by most. Ethan continues to work alongside his studies as he had done during his school years.
After graduating, according to his contract with PAGE Ltd, Ethan worked in the technology sector of PAGE. While he enjoyed this position at first, over time he felt disheartened by the fact he could never work anywhere else.
In 2006, Ethan married Sabrina and their daughter, Ashleigh Stower, was born in 2007. Disillusioned with his employment situation, Ethan made sure he gave his daughter all the opportunities to succeed where he couldn't. He spent many hours personally tutoring and quizzing her in maths and science subjects.

At work, Ethan forms a friendship with a younger PAGE employee, talking to her daily. He became a mentor to her and also unconsciously used her as a therapist at times.
As an adult, Ethan is quite negative with the few people he will speak to, other than his daughter. He is often stressed and suffers with depression which worsens after be comes aware of Ashleigh's mental health struggles.

In 2021, Ethan began struggling with his health but kept this a secret from everyone including his family and continued his daily activities as much as possible.
